I DID IT!

On January 20, 2013, I completed my first half marathon...at Disneyland (of course)!   A little slower than I would have liked but still a huge accomplishment of which I am extremely proud!

this is work?

Last night my job was to wear light-up Mickey Mouse ears and trade pins with guests....

Life is pretty stinkin' awesome....just sayin'...

in search of a healthier me.....continuing

Who says old dogs can't learn new tricks?

At the beginning of the year, I got the crazy idea that a 5K wasn't really THAT long of distance...which  led to the thought that I could probably jog a 5K...which led to me actually looking for local 5Ks....which led to me stating that I was planning on registering for a 5K at Disneyland (where else?) in September.....

I hoped that maybe a friend or two would join me in my crazy adventure.    I did not expect more than 20 friends to express interest.

As of today, there are 4 of us already signed up and training.

Right now, I'm managing a 14 min/mile pace which is 6 minutes faster than it was in January.   This week I'm increasing the distance to 2 miles with the hopes of maintaining my current pace at the new distance.

Hubby1 is running with me and his training plan is to run 3 miles at random times....not be able to walk for a week and when he can walk again, run another 3 miles.     I'm not confident in that type of training being efficient but whatever....

Girl1 is being a showoff and running a 35 minute 5K already.    We pretty much hate her.

So here we are at 48/49 years old.....preparing to run our first race....pray for our sanity.....
and our old, protesting muscles....

finally friday....on a sunday...just cuz

wow....this past week has been crazy.

a week ago, we shot our first wedding.

on wednesday, we shot "13" for a local youth theatre.

on thursday, we edited pictures all day and then shot a senior portrait session.

on friday, i had a job interview.

on friday, i became a disney cast member!

this week, i go back to work.....at the happiest place on earth....during the holiday season....it doesn't get much better than that.....=D

oh Disneyland.....you make me smile

had a great time at the Disneyland Resort yesterday......

small crowds....cool, overcast day...good friends....pretty much perfection

where, oh where have I been?

not sure anyone's been losing sleep over the lack of updates in my corner of the world,  but I miss updating the blog.    It's been a crazy week.   A friend (who owns a theatre company) had her light tech quit right before dress rehearsals began, so I've been running the board for her shows this past weekend.

We also shot the two productions that she is currently producing.   We've moved our business online, so we'll see how it works out.    Girl1 outdid herself with the pics....they are stinkin' fantastic!

(These are my pics; hers are at http://saizphotography.zenfolio.com/)

A coworker/friend was in a major car accident on Saturday morning, so that's been weighing heavy on our hearts.

Mother's day was nice...movies and dinner with hubby1 and girl1.   messages from the boys (cuz I never answer my phone...lol)  We saw Iron Man 2 and the theater stopped the projection before the end of the credits.....do they not realize that there's a teaser at the end?  really?   girl1 took care of it.

worked hard yesterday and ran away to disneyland today.   park was EMPTY!  and the weather was PERFECT!
just look at that view!  (from the Mickey and Friends parking structure)

spent just a few hours there but it was just what i needed.   you can read more about it at the other blog.

that's about it.  memorial service, bridal shower and theatre stuff this weekend....should be interesting.

a favorite pic and other randomness

So much coming up in the next few weeks, that I've been running away to Disney as often as possible to get my fix.   lol

Here's my favorite pic from last week:

There are more pics from the Disneyland Street Party/Parade over on my Disney blog.  Feel free to check them out.

We have a photo shoot at our favorite theatre this week.  They're doing "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" AND "Putnam County Spelling Bee."  We're shooting both shows and individual cast pictures Thursday night--we're preparing for a very hectic evening.

The wedding plans are moving along nicely.   This month appears to be "pay the balance due" month, so I'll be writing lots of checks.  Invitations have been mailed and responses are trickling in.  We've asked everyone to respond to a website instead of giving them a response card to mail.   Yeah for technology!  Save a tree and a few stamps!

Boy1 survived the ugly weather in Nashville this weekend with minor flooding in his apartment.  Classes have been cancelled today and the college kids are thrilled to have another day to study.   Finals are rapidly approaching.

Boy2 appears to be loving Alaska.  Work has been off and on, but  he's making enough to pay the bills.  We get random pictures of moose from him.   weirdo....

Girl1 is working for the census for the next 6 weeks.   Can't wait to hear the stories!  lol

That's about it ...off to have some coffee and get some chores done around the house.  I have more of them to do now that all the offspring have left...but the house doesn't seem to be as dirty as it was.  It all balances out.  =D

blogging fail

The blog that is supposed to be here, ended up over THERE.   must be monday.....

there's also a new thumper at thumperawards.blogspot.com...

gonna go have another cup of coffee and see if my brain would like to join the day's activities.

at disneyland today.....

i saw:

1.  a LOT of Thumpers

2. a mom spank her toddler for being afraid of Mickey Mouse.  It made me so angry!!!

3. and this:

It was VERY cool!!!!!

and now I can relax

This has been me for pretty much the last week.  I always think I've almost got all the paperwork done but, as the tax appointment gets closer, it seems like the tasks just keep multiplying.  When I hit total this year, many of the entries on the spreadsheet duplicated themselves.   I hit "undo" with the Pollyanna hopes that they would unduplicate but no such luck.   I spent hours line deleting expenses....14 pages of them...hope I caught them all.

But now all the returns are done and I'm happy to report that all the family members are receiving money back.  We consider it a success as long as we don't have to write a check.

Good news....our return is larger than last year's.   Bad news...our income was half of last year's.    No wonder it's been hard to make the budget work.

hey! you finally filed your tax returns....what are you going to do now?     "I'm going to Disneyland!!!!"

see you later!

finally friday 18 -- the one with spring stuff

It's here!  planting time - lots of lilies this year and veggies galore!  love spring time!

I cheated this year and bought a couple large plants....fresh tomatoes in less than a month!
so done with store bought...ugh....

Spent the morning weeding and prepping the beds.  I would have planted but my arms and back protested.
Tomorrow is suppose to be a glorious day in the southland, so I'll finish then.

Next week, I have to finish up the tax stuff...this is the time of year when I don't like being self-employed.  So many things to keep track of.

family update:  boy1 just got accepted for an internship at a large church in Florida.  he'll be working with the worship team.   girl1 is busy with wedding stuff and has decided to improve her cooking skills.  she's in charge of one dinner a week.   boy2 is loving Alaska....a week on the job and he's already been given a raise.   hubby1 is spending the weekend hooping for lobsters.  It's the last weekend of the season and our supply is very low.

That's about it....family is coming in on Monday and want us to join them at Disneyland.  It's rude to say "no" to family, so we'll probably have to force ourselves to go.   =D

have a wonderful weekend!!!!

Finally Friday16ish....the one with ADD

It's been awhile but here's a "write-it-down-and-get-it-out-of-my-head,so-I-can-focus-on-the-weekend" post.   My brain is in list mode, so this will have to be also.

1.  The menfolk will be back tomorrow evening.  They've been snowboarding in Utah for a week.

2.  Sunday I judged 2 musicals...."Alice in Wonderland" and "Rent: the student edition."   Probably not the best combination of shows to see back-to-back and may I say (of course, I may...it's my blog) that I don't think that 14-19 year olds should be doing "Rent."   They sang it okay but they don't really have the life experiences or maturity to perform it.

3.  Captain EO has returned to Disneyland for a limited time.   hahahahaha   I saw it yesterday (yes, I was at Disneyland again..you can follow those adventures over there)   My kids are gonna die when they see it....it really is bad (and not in the 80's good way).   If you go to the park, take the time to experience it....just for kicks.

4.  And on the subject of Disneyland,  the Electrical Light Parade is leaving in April with no plans to bring it back to the west coast.  This makes me sad.

5.  I'm judging another show tonight..."Cinderella Enchanted"....I think I'm on musical overload.

6.  Wedding plans are moving along.   Invitations are printed and will be assembled on Wednesday.  Bridesmaids dresses are being purchased (hopefully) on Sunday.  We met with the caterer and are just waiting for her estimate.  Music is being selected.   We're pretty much just passing time until the big day.

7.  Boy2 is moving to Alaska on Tuesday.   Homer, Alaska.   Good thing he likes snow.  Crazy kid.

8.  best blog line of the morning:   release my inner Godzilla upon Internet Tokyo  go ahead....check it out, I'll wait.   but you have to promise to come back...

9.  someone has started a "people of the park" website that is like "people of walmart"....so now you can check out disneyland fashion faux pas there and at Thumper Awards.

10.  It's suppose to rain again and the top of my car is still leaking.

11.  I'm on my 3rd cup of coffee and my head still hurts.  Maybe it's not a caffeine headache....ugh.

and it's 10:30 so I should probably move along.....have a fantastic weekend!!!!

spring is in the air

about the new pic up there^     I took it yesterday on one of those speedy trips through Disneyland.  I swear the flowers were simply screaming to be appreciated.     I LOVE how it turned out!

Hubby1 is currently removing a huge pine tree so we can expand our garden area.  woohoo!   Next week we'll turn over the beds and start planning.   In just a couple of weeks, it will be time to started planting!  I adore this time of year!

got disneyland on my mind

It's a chilly, rainy day here in Southern California and I'm snuggled up on the couch looking at old photos.  Not a bad way to spend a Monday.    I love the old pictures my dad took at Disneyland.

There's a couple more over at http://www.thatdisneyblog.blogspot.com/....  you should check them out...=D

new blog

I've decided to put together a Disney photo blog.  This blog will remain the same but you'll be directed to the Disney page for all things related to the happiest place on earth.  It just makes sense....to me anyways.

I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed with starting a themed-blog. Probably because I like to have a plan and I'm not good at letting things just evolve. Currently I'm thinking something along the lines of documenting Disneyland throughout the year. In my happy place, I would take a series of pictures on the first of each month so you can see how the parks change throughout the year.

I also have a bunch of pics that my dad took in 1956. I really want to put together a "then and now" series. I'm also looking at the old Micky Mouse club and seeing if the different theme days would work somehow on this blog. So many choices...aaarrrrgggghhhhh.

it's over there:  http://www.thatdisneyblog.blogspot.com/      feel free to stop by for a visit!

the weather machine was broken

I went to Disneyland yesterday (are you tired of posts that start that way?).   It rained.   Not the typical California rain, but real rain.  The kind of rain that soaks you to the bone.  AND it was cold.  Not California cold, but almost really cold.  Seriously, 40ish type cold and windy.   brrrrrrr

And, yet, off we went....and we weren't the only crazy people.   There were still lines for pretty much everything.

And, yet, we still managed to have a fantastic time.   Go Us!

it was Kaytee's birthday.

"someone" suggested we ride splash mountain first...
"since we're going to be wet anyway"...
do you see how soaked I am?
we'd been in the park for about 30 minutes.
brrrrrrrrr.....

The rain did stop briefly....

They are sad that we can't make ourselves ill on the teacups.

on space mountain...in the dark....over the shoulder pic....
always fun....

group shot...now the rain had stoppped but it was getting cold and windy...

so we went to PF Changs for the birthday dinner....

and the traditional birthday cake food fight...

such a wonderful, crazy, fun-filled day!

focus focus focus....

my brain is all over the place this morning, so hold on tight.

1.  I'm not really sure why I'm having my car washed this morning but at least it will look nice for a few hours before the rain arrives.

2.  Hubby1 got up early and brought all the Christmas boxes to the front room for me.

3.  I'm thankful that I inherited my mom's packing skills.  If I hadn't, we'd have to build a new room for all the Christmas boxes.

4.  I don't really want to go to a wedding this afternoon.  I'm in the mood to deep clean the house and start decorating.

5.  So excited that it's supposed to be cool and rainy for the next few days.  I love baking when it's cold outside, so there will be lots of goodies coming out of the oven this week.

6.  Possibly going to Disneyland on Monday....in the rain....we call them poncho days....and they are sooooo much fun!

7.  Anyone want a piano?

8.  Boy2 went to Disneyland yesterday with friends....I was jealous.

9.  My toes are FREEZING.

10.  Pumpkin pie and coffee is possibly the best breakfast .....even better than cold pizza and dr. pepper.

11.  Is it any wonder that I have to workout so much?

12.  Pretty sure the Steelers aren't going to be playing football in February this year.  sadness

13.  Why do I feel the need to number these lists?  I could use letters or even dots or stars.

14.  Firewood sales should be awesome this week....wooohoo!   Vacation money!!

15.  51 days til the cruise!!!!

Have a fantastical weekend.

loving the Christmas music

As I'm sitting here pretending like I'm actually working on invoices and rocking out to the Rat Pack Christmas cd, I started wondering if there are other Christmas cd's that I should have in my collection.  I'd hate to miss out on great music.   So, dear bloggy friends, what is your favorite, "can't wait until December to listen to it" album/cd/download?

Don't be shy....even if it's "Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer and Other Obscure Songs of the Season"...we won't judge...
