Saw "Alice in Wonderland" last night...in IMAX....from the second row....my eyes are still recovering....
I've been looking forward to this movie since the first hint that it was being made. My excitement grew as details were leaked. I'm a HUGE fan of the books....both "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" and "Through the Looking-Glass and What Alice Found There." (read them....really....you won't believe how charming they are)
Visually the movie is fantastic. Tim Burton is quirky enough to capture the magic of Wonderland. I wish he had spent more time developing the characters' history. It seemed like he was heading that direction and then edited himself. I loved the flashback of the Madhatter and was hoping for more.
The use of traditional Alice illustrations was perfect and as was the whole Jabberwocky tale. I hope moviegoers take the time to read the poem. It will help them catch some of the crazy language in the movie. Johnny Depp can do no wrong with a character like the Mad Hatter and Helena Bonham Carter is absolutely delightful.
I'm taking hubby1 to the movies this week....it's a great excuse for me to visit Wonderland again.
I haven't seen the movie but I'm getting completely mixed reviews on it. I either here that it was the best movie someone's ever seen, or they say it was awful. I guess there is no middle ground on this one.
ReplyDeleteI would see it just for Johnny Depp, so I don't care either way. :)
I'm glad you liked it! I saw it in 2d and 3d and kinda preferred the 2d. The 3d gave everything more depth, but It was hard to focus on the actual foreground events. But the darn movie took my breath away. Well okay, mostly the costumes took my breath away....
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to seeing this! I love JD! He is such an awesome actor! Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this movie!!
ReplyDeleteSo you liked it, then?
ReplyDeleteI really want to see this, but HM is skeptical -- and we get out for dates so rarely. I love Jabberwocky, too. I teach it to my students to show them that you don't need to understand every word of a poem to understand its message. It's a hit every year!
