got alot of living to do.....

Last week was crazy, busy, hectic, messy, dusty, funny, exhausting, exciting, bittersweet, joyful, overscheduled, stressful and pretty darn amazing!

quick recap:
tile guy here from friday until wednesday night to redo the entryway, the baseboards, patch drywall and fix transitions from the hallways into the bedrooms. he's awesome! fantastic work and meticulous about the finished product.

monday, my niece graduated from high school
thursday, a friend arrived from the midwest to celebrate her 50th birthday with us at disneyland and boy1 and girl1's graduation ceremony/dinner.
friday, i went to disneyland with my friends.
saturday, take friend to airport in the morning and grad party in the evening.

and today, i'm awake but in a borderline vegetative state.
here are some pics of all the fun:

disneyland:
(sooooooo crowded but sooo much fun)

after 14 hours at the happiest place on earth....
we were EXHAUSTED! lol

tile work:

graduation:
(boy2 documented the event with over 400 pics....pics of all the folks around us; pics of us texting the grads; pics of the trash in the stadium; pics of all the balloons that escaped; pics of cars in the parking structure; etc etc etc....i won't share them all)
i love this pic....
posing pretty, being wacky, and making the doofus face.

2 college grads and a high school grad. woohoo!

it says "$20 if you fall down the ramp"

more construction

currently (right this minute),the tile guy is removing what remains of our entryway. it's loud and dusty but is soooo worth it. it'd take pictures but my camera is in the office which is on the other side of the little plastic room he constructed (to help control dust). so you'll just have to wait to see the final product.

And the medallion, that was originally quoted at $750, ended up costing only $149. woohoo!!!!!! That means we can change out the trim in the entry also and possibly paint depending on the cost of the slate.

we will all be getting lots of exercise as we walk around the house since we can't use the front door for the next few days and we don't have a garage. no need for wii fit this weekend...lol

estimated time of completion?....Tuesday....company arrives Thursday....glad they are coming to see us and not to inspect our living conditions.....who knows what the actual status of our home will be.....

2 rooms down, 3 to go.....

room is done (except for the switchplates, but they are on backorder) ... three and half weeks later...under budget because we did most of the grunt work ourselves and let the contractor take a week off to work on a different job.

here are the colors (mountain haze is my favorite - it's a green with grayish undertones...hard to describe but gorgeous on the walls):

our fake wood floor - it's tile:

the contractor/friend/crazy dude getting ready to paint the trim:

the marble and tile are beautiful together:

and here's where i get to sleep tonight....on a new mattress...with new sheets....and a new comforter.....

and the bed? handmade for us by a lovely gentleman after our house burned down--because he wanted us to have something beautiful in our new home. people are awesome!

tomorrow!

the mattress set arrives tomorrow! we can move back into our room! woohoo!

here's what the room looked like after we decided to spray the trim instead of brushing it. taping off a room is a pain in the neck but the end result is incredible!

we should have everything in it's place Thursday morning and life can go back to "normal"....whatever normal is....

although, i did bring home more tile samples for the entryway.....but they swear it's only a 3 day job. hahahahahaha

OH! if you have an iPhone and haven't downloaded Pocketgod, go do it now! girl1 says it's the best app out there.

tools of the trade

This is the tile guy's tool box.
All the essentials for a hard day's work.
Right there in one crate.
As long as you keep that pretty little snowflake mug filled with coffee,
he's a happy camper and the work continues.

distracted....again

this is why i don't start projects....they keep getting bigger and bigger. we started with just the bathroom and then added the area by the closets and that led to the entire master bedroom. well, since the tile guy was going to be here anyways, we added the entry way tile and that led to the entry way light......it's getting scary.

so this morning, we accomplished this:

old light (circa 1986)

new light (circa today):

grouting the tile today...woohoo!

making progress

here's what our room looks like today:

yesterday my girlfriend asked me to join her for her birthday celebration. we went to see a taping of the Bonnie Hunt show. It will be shown on Tuesday. Dinner at a great steak and seafood restaurant. total blast and a great day away from the clutter in the house. Happy Birthday Debbie! great party!!! lol

welcome to friends from Collective Thoughts -- i'll stop by to visit as soon as the remodeling allows me. make sure to leave a message so i know where to find you. =D

Have a wonderful weekend!

quik update

since i'm waiting for boy2 to get home from the beach, thought i'd take a second to say "hi!" i'm missing having time to read all your blogs (trying to catch a few here and there). last 3 days have been spent demolishing the master bed and bath, in preparation for paint and new flooring. there was WAY more repair work in the bath then we anticipated.

we spent this afternoon painting and still have 3 walls left -- of course, they are the ones requiring the most taping and detail work. I'll do them tomorrow while the contractor starts on the entry way. I haven't found the tile for it yet, but he has at least a day of work just removing the current flooring there.

The master suite is shades of green and i like 2/3 of the colors. hehehe i think the medium shade should probably be a tan but hubby1 says to live with the green and we'll change it in a few months (years) if it still bothers me.

anyways...we've been promised that all work will be done in no more than 7 days, so life should be back to our definition of normal in about 9.

have a great week.....i'll try to drop by but i'm not promising anything. =D

clutter stresses me out

this is pretty much what my master bathroom looks like right now. and what started as a simple "let's tile and paint the little bitty bathroom" has turned into a major remodeling of the masterbedroom also.

the contractor called on wednesday and said he'll be here Monday. We have to have the wallpaper stripped, walls patched, carpet removed, walls painted and all the furniture out of the back rooms. he'll be here "no more than 7 days--shooting for 6." hahahahahaha

So the last few days have been spent cleaning and sanding and doing all those other things you have to do in order to have a pretty living space. I discovered that I hide alot of stuff under my bed. lol And, because God has an awesome sense of humor, rain is in the forecast for the next few days (in southern California?!) and all my furniture is going to be on the back patio. And I'm on day 3 of a "lovely" migraine, so i'm working well below normal speed.

see you next week!!!!!
