Last night, girl1, her moh(maid of honor)and I went to look at wedding dresses. Seriously, we just went to look at them and have her try on a few to see what style(s) she likes.
We were there 3 hours. We basically played Barbie doll. She tried on princess dresses, strapless dresses, poofy dresses, straight dresses, sleeveless dresses and then....
she tried on an off-the-shoulder dress that has a 40's look to it and everyone in the shop said "oh!"
Her dress will be here in 12 weeks.

finally friday13 -- the one with nothing special
it's friday...and here's the semi-regular "wrap it up and toss it out" post. i really don't have much to wrap up. i have to pay bills today because the dentist appt took up the normally scheduled give away my money time. but i really haven't done anything interesting this week.
we went to disney on sunday for girl1's 21st birthday.
i ordered a cool lens for my camera.
went to the dentist to see how much more pain he could inflict. i'm excited about having a nice smile but it is going to be a long 18 months. today the "nubbies" were attached to my teeth. they are suppose to put more pressure on so the teeth move quicker. it basically just means more dull pain in my mouth and now the aligners are even harder to remove. "it's worth it....it's worth it.....it's worth it...."
girl1 and sil2b at california adventure
have a great weekend everyone!
about the new blog picture
about that pic up there^ that's boy2 doing what boy2 does. snapped by one of his snowboarding buddies. original image...no photoshopping...no cropping....just a great example of being in the right place at right time.
i love it!
i love it!
toys...
i've been saving for a better lens for almost a year now. this morning i ordered this:
it'll be here by Friday....i'll be at disneyland on Sunday.....you can expect pictures on Monday....
i really wanted this but there's this wedding thing being planned and, well......
one thing i won't do
We were at disneyland and california adventure yesterday to celebrate girl1's 21st birthday. (wow...engagement on thursday and turning 21 on sunday. she's had a FANTASTIC week) anyways....i love, love, LOVE pretty much everything about disney except for this ride:
sure...it looks all innocent in that pic but then this happens:
those stupid swinging gondolas freak me out. not just a "oohh, that's a strange sensation" type freak out. a total "omg!!! i'm going to cry" type freak out. so i sat and took pics while the family rode it.
I do, however, get a kick out of Tower of Terror......
go figure...
Talk like a Pirate Day
It be International Talk Like a Pirate Day!
Swap the decks and hoist the Jolly Roger,
we be playing "monday movie quotes" on a Saturday.
So, mateys, this be yer chance to weigh in with yer best
"Pirates of the Caribbean" quote.
leave yer squawking below
finally friday12 - the one with a tv and an engagement
the week is done and it's time for another "wrap it up and toss it out" post.....so here goes:
we bought a new tv and eventually will get the remote(s) all straightened out. why did we buy a new tv? cuz it's football season and ours died in the middle of Monday Night Football. Soooo NOT okay! i had to listen to both games on my new 52" radio and football is not the same without the picture.
on tuesday, after we bought the tv, we hiked over to Chili's and enjoyed another fabulous dinner. not because Chili's has the greatest food in the world, but because all the family members living in california were there and it doesn't happen very often. an evening of laughter and crazy stories..i treasure those moments.
i also got braces on tuesday which made dinner painful but i'm surviving. 46 yrs old with braces....what was i thinking? oh! i remember! i was thinking --"man, when did my teeth get all cattywhompus? ewwwwww...fix those things..."
wednesday was a "clean the house and whine about how much my teeth hurt" day.
thursday...fiasco at the dog groomers. but Guido now looks beautiful and it was 50% off. and then the big ENGAGEMENT....so excited for girl1 and SIL2B
and it's FRIDAY! lalalalalalalalala gotta buy some dogfood and that's about it.
niece is coming to hang for a little bit tomorrow...haven't seen her for awhile. and then dland on Sunday to celebrate girl1's 21st birthday. such a big week for her!!!! are we the only ones that think having your first legal drink at disneyland is a little funny? acohol and disney just doesn't click in my brain but they make a decent margarita over in California Adventure.
have a fantastical weekend!!!!!
don't forget to hop on over to http://www.thumperawards.blogspot.com/ to check out the final Jungle Week picture.
no brace-face here
yep...i am now the proud wearer of invisalign aligners.....technically, they aren't braces.
things i've discovered in the 2 hours of treatment.
1. they are really difficult to remove the first few times. (if you get them, make sure you practice removing them before you leave the dentist office. mine had a spot that was catching under my crown. it had to be filed down.)
2. the mouth pain starts after about 15 minutes of wearing.
3. i should not have mocked my kids when they talked funny with their braces.
4. it's gonna be a looooonnnnnnngggg 18 months.
5. i'm glad i chose them over traditional braces. they really are invisible.
they also come with an additional benefit. my dentist calls it the invisalign diet. he says it's such a pain to take them out everytime you want to eat, that people stop snacking. several of his patients are losing weight since getting the aligners.
i can live with that.......

a list! a list! time for another list!
i was checking back through my posts and found this one that some how never got published. since i have no breaking news today, figured i might as well post it now. it's from may....
from the immense depths of my brain, here is a list of things that are taking up precious memory space.
from the immense depths of my brain, here is a list of things that are taking up precious memory space.
1. you would think that folks with bottle tans would see that they are actually orange and realize that it's not a natural color for humans.
2. it never ceases to amaze me that every ballplayer who gets popped for a banned substance, claims that their doctor gave it to them and they didn't realize it was banned.
3. i am saddened by what is considered "news." newscasts, for the most part, are mostly tabloid entertainment shows now.
4. Star Trek was a really, really good movie....and the eye-candy factor was pretty good too.
5. i'm pretty stinkin' excited that there are already veggies in the garden.
6. the flab around my mid-section is NOT okay!
7. seeing Dirty Dancing tonight....curious how it will translate to stage.
8. another group of teens were killed in a car accident involving racing and drinking...makes my heart hurt.
9. my puppies are really cute.
10. space shuttle launches still fill me with awe.
to my new "friend"
dear mom of boy2's friend,
thank you for repeatedly calling my house early on Saturday morning when your delinquent son tells you that "boy2's mom said ......." since your son has always been completely honest with you, of course you should believe everything he says about me. of course the best thing for you to do is call my house and rip me apart for my son's behavior.
may i point out, once again, that my son has never been sent to a foreign country for a year because we couldn't control him? may i also point out, that my son passed his test? (did you even have yours tested?...oh wait, it was his bong...sorry, i forgot) i'm pretty sure my child is not completely at fault here.
really? can we just admit that our boys make stupid decisions when together and quit all the stupid finger pointing? let's try this: we will continue to do the best we can at this parenting game and we suggest that you do the same. if you would like to sit down and CALMLY discuss boundaries for our boys, we are more than willing.
and as far as your excuse that you are a single mom and i can't possible understand what that is like? you're right, i don't know how hard it is to raise kids alone. but last time i looked around, there are lots of successful people who were raised in a single parent home.
learn the word "no" and enforce it. when he comes home late and under the influence, take his phone and computer away. drive him to school and pick him up. if he's not there, call the police and report him as a runaway. if he's leaving campus during the day, ask for permission to attend school with him. take a good book and sit in the back of all his classes. he's not as tough as he pretends to be. call his bluff. show up randomly at the places he says he's going. keep him off balance. who cares if you look like an overly-protective mom? our job is to raise them to be productive members of society. there are no rules about how we accomplish that. as soon as he knows that you are willing to do ANYthing to help him succeed, he'll calm down.
parenting isn't easy and sometimes we have to be "out of control" to get our point across. your son needs to know two things: 1. that you love him more than anything and 2. that there is no limit to what you will do if you think he is in trouble and headed down the wrong path.
oh... and sorry about that intense message on your machine....the sentiment is accurate but i probably could have conveyed it in a more mature manner.
sincerely,
boy2's mom
p.s. if you call my machine and go off like that again, i will file harrassment charges. i have no pride and no problem being extreme....ask my kids.

meet "SwaggerJack" or "Jack"
meet "SwaggerJack" or "Jack"
and "Vespa" for her habit of "scooting" across any grass surface on her belly.
and they learned all about the pool yesterday...courtesy of boy2:
that's about it. don't forget to check out the other site at http://www.thumperawards.blogspot.com/ for a fun look at what folks are wearing. and if you could be so kind as to spread the word...we really need some more pictures.
and if you are in the mood for some uplifting music, check out www.myspace.com/jimmysaiz you don't have to have a myspace to listen. if you like what you hear, feel free to pass the link along. =D
My life is an "E" ticket ride...
this weekend, one of the offspring auditioned for some record labels. woohoo! also, this weekend, we received one of those dreaded phone calls from the police dept saying we needed to come pick up one of our offspring. oohoow... "wrong place, wrong time, wrong group of friends" type things. (and before any conclusions are drawn...offspring was not partaking in the stupidity...although offspring should have walked away).
good thing i like thrill rides.
don't forget to check out the new fashion website over THERE. and tell your friends! tweet it! share it on facebook! blog it! follow it! we need more pictures! we hear that your local wallyworld is a good place to find thumpers.

What happens at Disneyland.....
......doesn't necessarily stay at Disneyland.
My friends and I play a snarky little game at our favorite local amusement park. We take pictures of tourist fashion and then we post them on our facebooks for the enjoyment of others. We've been talking about putting together a website for awhile and the while finally arrived!
here it is....The Thumper Awards.....enjoy!

finally friday11 - the one with a funk and some puppies
it's FRIDAY!!!! and I, for one, am glad to put this week behind me. so here's the semi-regular "wrap-it-up and toss-it-out" post.
the week started with me in a whopper of a funk. thankfully, mine are like my labors. they don't last long but they are REALLY intense. so thanks for all the kind words and prayers..i've pulled back, refocused and am ready to face the world again.
the puppies are adjusting and we're having a great time discovering their personalities. the female (still not named) has a thing for water. keeping the water dish full is becoming quite a challenge. they aren't drinking it, she's splashing in it. the boy has been christened "swagger-jack" by the menfolk. the womenfolk are just calling him "jack" and he's still adorable.
boy1's apartment was broken into last night. two roommates lost laptops. thankfully, his room was locked and nothing was taken. i feel soooo bad for the roommates. college is hard enough without stuff like this. we're trying to get a couple of computers donated for them or at least some cash to help buy new ones.
fires are still burning throughout the southland. a new one started this morning. my throat hurts from the smoke and my allergies are out of control. and we're not technically into fire season yet.
after i pay the bills and do a couple of quick errands, i'll be ready for the holiday weekend. we're thinking a day out on the ocean....any place cooler than 103.
that's about it....have a great weekend!!!!

guard dogs?
our lab/retriever (who has been pulling solo yard patrol since our pitbull died) is getting old and lazy. he now just raises his head when people walk in the yard, takes a quick assessment, and goes back to sleep. so we decided to get him some help so he can spend the rest of his days lounging in the sun.
yesterday, these two "guard" dogs came to live with us.

the animal shelter says that this little guy is a german shepherd/corgi mix. we say he's adorable. he was supposed to be the only one coming home but then boy2 saw this sweetheart and she stole his heart:

the shelter labeled her a pitbull/boxer. she thinks she's a lapdog. her previous owner was a jerk so she has a couple of bad habits. mostly, we're just going to love her into obedience.
i love this picture....he's going to be trouble...

OH! almost forgot....we haven't figured out names for them yet...feel free to throw in your two cents. =D
