has it really been 3 months?

man...i completely fail at this blogging thing!    life has been busy, but not busy enough to ignore the 1.37 people who actually still check in over here.   i apologize for my absence.

quick catch up....

in list form....

cuz it's the way my brain works....

1.  still loving the "new" car...that has 16,000+ miles on it already....since August...lol

2.  still loving the job....

3.  transferred to a new land at disney....you can find me in Adventure/Frontier lands now....

4.  took a roadtrip to Nashville in December....it was the trip from hell.....52 hours to drive what should take 29 hours....  details were posted on twitter....

5.  boy1 should be graduating from college in may.....there will be more trips to nashville this spring

6.  the VW saga did finally end....it did require getting the attorney involved again but at least VW paid VW credit for the stupid car

7.  my Christmas tree is really pretty this year and i don't really want to take it down.....so i'm going to leave it up for a few more days...

8.  girl1 got a new job....she's an apple chick now

9.  boy2 is cruising around new zealand on his bike....

10.    hubby1 is turning 50 in just a couple of months.....

11.  we'll be cruising to alaska later this year...

12.   applied for some new positions at work....don't expect to get any of them but it doesn't hurt to apply

that's about it.....hoping your 2012 is spectacular!

could it be? Yes! A List!

I survived my first peak season at D*****l*** and loved almost every minute of it.  Here's some things I learned:

1.   The parks have their own language.  Actually, it's more like a bunch of letters that they season conversations with.  I think it's a test to see if you will ask what things mean or if you are a "nod and smile" type person.

2.  Newbies work the closing shifts.   I saw daylight once in the past 6 weeks.   The majority of my shifts started around 8pm and ended at 2:45am.   Except for that one lovely NYE shift that ended at 4am.  Tack on my hour plus commute and you can imagine how sleep deprived I am at the moment.

3.  You are actually expected to show up for your shifts....on time....and in the correct costume.   I didn't have a problem with this but several of the newbies were offended when they were spoken to about showing up late.   Go figure.

4.  It's not really a good idea to tell your boss that you don't want to fold the sweatshirts again.   Or to stand around talking when the manager is on the floor and your tasks aren't complete.   Yep....a couple of the other newbies have some interesting work ethics.

5.  It's a magical place to work.   Being there almost daily for 6 weeks just made me love it more.  (I'll be there tomorrow as a guest...lol)

6.  I don't really want to work full time....20-25 hours a week is just about perfect.

7.  Schools should have mandatory classes on dressing for interviews and proper work ethics.   e.g.  Tan leggings stretched to their limit with a black thong showing thru the fabric, knee high boots and a short tshirt does not make the best interview outfit.  And, yes, I know they said professional attire but I don't think you understood what profession they meant.

8.  No one cares if your parent has worked there for 10 years.    They do care if you will work....at all....

9.  If you don't show up for a shift and you don't bother to call in, you will be terminated.   No questions asked.   I liked this rule....and I liked it even more when they actually let 3 people go.

10.  Give a child a piece of bubblewrap and they forget all about the candy they wanted.    This makes you a hero with both the kid and their parents.

how about a list?

1.    i'm still angry about the Halloween fireworks deal at Disneyland.   Not in a "dwelling on it continously" sort of way--just in a "when I think about it, it ticks me off" sort of way.

2.  stuff for the wedding needs to get done and I'm not really motivated to do it and this could cause some problems.  really need to just kick myself in the behind and make some phone calls.

3.  it's been uber hot in SoCal this week....please join us in praying that we get a beautiful in the mid-80's day on June 27th.    who's the idiot who planned an outdoor wedding in June?

4.  hubby1 got popped for talking on his cellphone while driving last week.......twice......aarrrrrggggghhhhh

5.  the dilemna about bluetooth for him?  he's deaf in one ear...if he wears a bluetooth, he can't hear anything.   looking at other options.....

6.  sometimes i hate that my friends have discovered texting.....if you want to have a full conversation call me.  texting is for things like..."hey, i'm going to be 5 min. late"  "can you pick up milk on the way home" ...not "how are you" "what are you doing" "i'm sitting at the ____ and i'm bored...talk to me"...gah!

7.  my garden is rockin' it this year....we're pulling 2-3 zucchini a day...remind me how excited i was about this in august when i start complaining about eating zucchini every meal....

8.  seeing Chorus Line tonight...it's hard to believe that this is the first time I've seen a professionally staged production of it....

9.  tonight's show was supposed to be the touring production of "101 Dalmations:the Musical" but the tour closed early...wow, shocker.....

10.   it's also an election day here in California...which means that the stupid TV ads will finally stop....ptl!

11.  want to make sure i don't vote for you?   call me 20 times a day and tell me how great you are and how much your opponent sucks...seriously....i'll vote for your opponent just cuz you pissed me off

off to pay bills and try to find event insurance for the wedding (which is a total rip-off, but required for most venues now)...have a wonderful Tuesday!

focus focus focus....

my brain is all over the place this morning, so hold on tight.

1.  I'm not really sure why I'm having my car washed this morning but at least it will look nice for a few hours before the rain arrives.

2.  Hubby1 got up early and brought all the Christmas boxes to the front room for me.

3.  I'm thankful that I inherited my mom's packing skills.  If I hadn't, we'd have to build a new room for all the Christmas boxes.

4.  I don't really want to go to a wedding this afternoon.  I'm in the mood to deep clean the house and start decorating.

5.  So excited that it's supposed to be cool and rainy for the next few days.  I love baking when it's cold outside, so there will be lots of goodies coming out of the oven this week.

6.  Possibly going to Disneyland on Monday....in the rain....we call them poncho days....and they are sooooo much fun!

7.  Anyone want a piano?

8.  Boy2 went to Disneyland yesterday with friends....I was jealous.

9.  My toes are FREEZING.

10.  Pumpkin pie and coffee is possibly the best breakfast .....even better than cold pizza and dr. pepper.

11.  Is it any wonder that I have to workout so much?

12.  Pretty sure the Steelers aren't going to be playing football in February this year.  sadness

13.  Why do I feel the need to number these lists?  I could use letters or even dots or stars.

14.  Firewood sales should be awesome this week....wooohoo!   Vacation money!!

15.  51 days til the cruise!!!!

Have a fantastical weekend.

a very merry Un-Thanksgiving to you

things in my life that i'm not really that thankful for:
1.   the roadrunner that has taken up residence in my neighbor's bushes.    i like roadrunners....i'm just not thrilled when he wanders over to get a drink out of the koi pond and the inside dogs go nuts.

2.  people who have no concept of personal space.

3.  the rate that the laundry hamper fills up.

4.  the sign-twirler on our corner who insists on feeding my dogs leftovers.  my guard dogs now think everyone at the fence is a friend.

5.  people who open our back gate; walk thru our backyard and knock on our backdoor when their car breaks down on the busy road behind my house.

6.  boy2's annoying ringtone.

7.  boy1 being in nashville for the holidays.

8.  kids who ride their bikes on my driveway when my car is parked there.

9.  people who sit at the drive-thru atm and have to add the deposit, sign the checks, look for their atm card, make a couple phone calls, apply makeup, change the baby's diaper BEFORE they can actually begin their banking transaction.

10.   drama....

time for a list

things i love about fall:
10.  snuggling under the poofy comforter

from the immense depths of my brain, here is a list of things that are taking up precious memory space.

1. you would think that folks with bottle tans would see that they are actually orange and realize that it's not a natural color for humans.

2. it never ceases to amaze me that every ballplayer who gets popped for a banned substance, claims that their doctor gave it to them and they didn't realize it was banned.

my 10 favorite things about being a parent....

.....because I would hate to leave you thinking that all I could come up with is my least favorite things. I really LOVE, LOVE, LOVE being a mom. I can't imagine my life without the three weirdos that have shared our living space for the past 22, 20 and 17 years.

10. baby belly laughs....you know the ones....when they laugh with their entire body

9. story time with Girl1. she works customer service at Best Buy. she is a FANTASTIC storyteller. she comes home and re-enacts the best moments of her day.

8. the fact that they still come in at night and want to talk before going to bed. I usually read before falling asleep and the joke is that it takes forever for me to finish a book because they are always coming in to talk.

7. memories made at disneyland....that place where they forget to act "cool" and just have fun

6. first day of school. the nervousness...the excitement...the pride of being a "big" kid

5. game nights. i don't think our family has ever finished a game of "Life." usually someone gets bored and then they get silly and then (usually) the game ends because "Godzilla" comes along and stomps on all our cars. yep...that's our family...

4. two year olds. everything was so exciting to them.

3. unique pronounciations of words that have become part of our family's vocabulary. (ordaments, hamanburgs, etc)

2. inside jokes that make us laugh until we can't breathe (which often occurs when we are some place where we should behave - like church or a museum.)

and my favorite thing about being a parent....

1. that very first baby smile...the one that is slightly crooked and a little bit goofy but makes you realize that you didn't really know what love was until that moment.

interaction time: what are your favorite moments?

my 10 least favorite things about being a parent....

...at least this morning. i'm sure on a different day, i'd come up with a different list. But this morning, this is what you get.

10. magic marker on everything BUT the paper

9. unsolicitated advice on how to raise them "right"

8. little boys who can hit everything BUT the toilet

7. junior high and all it's drama and squirreliness

6. the phone calls alerting us to the fact that, "i've been in an accident"

5. poopy diapers

4. the 50 required hours of parent-supervised behind the wheel training

3. the fact the they will walk past 3 bathrooms to stand by your bed and announce, "i feel *BARF* sick..."

2. hormones

and my least favorite thing (so far)....

1. waking up at 3:15 IN THE MORNING and discovering that 2/3 of the kids are not home yet

yea...i know that it's Halloween party season. yea....I know that there was a cast party. yea i know that you got off work at 11 and the show didn't end until 11, but REALLY? 3AM!? if the Sunday morning paper is on the driveway when you arrive home, you are out too late. pretty simple.

what are your least favorite moments?

tomorrow, i'll post about the good moments. i bet the list will be longer....cuz being a parent really is a fantastic job.
